Ever since iOS 16 was released for iPhone 8 and above, users have continued to complain about battery drain faster since updating to the latest iOS version – including me on my iPhone 13 Pro.
The latest update brings widgets to the lock screen, so you can put a weather or countdown widget there, and pressing it will launch the app in question, while selecting different fonts and colors to customize the lock screen to your needs.
On top of that, there are improvements to almost every app and menu, such as Photos, where you can pick up an object from an image and place it elsewhere.
However, since I’ve been using the update, I’ve noticed my iPhone hitting 20% by afternoon instead of watching a Netflix documentary in the evening.
And it seems that I’m not alone (opens in a new tab). While we reached out to Apple for comment, I was wondering what could be causing the faster drain other than being a bug.
Batteries not included
One feature I love about iOS 16 is the touch keyboard toggle – so there’s a slight vibration whenever you press it. However, it’s understandable to assume it’s a factor in draining the battery faster, so I turned it off.
There are countless lock screens you can perform on iOS 16, but there are also such as the Astrology and Weather screens that need to track your location or refresh constantly to get the latest temperature in order to stay up-to-date on your iPhone’s lock screen ‘and.
I removed them and instead left a static image with a few widgets from Obscura (opens in a new tab) and Stuff 3 (opens in a new tab).
However, by disabling these features and having an iPhone mirroring what it was on iOS 15, the drain was still going on, so it looks like a bug.
Apple has already released iOS 16.02 (opens in a new tab) which solves many problems including the constant Paste prompt that popped up every time users tried to copy text into another application.
Since iOS 16.1 is now available as a public beta for testing, we can see a fix in this latest update to alleviate these battery issues, and hopefully I will charge my iPhone once a day.
