We’ve been expecting to see the Apple Watch 8, Apple Watch SE 2, and Apple Watch Pro at tomorrow’s Apple Far Out event (Sept.7) for a while, but what we didn’t expect (we are hearing now) is that there will be another model too – targeting especially for children.
This idea comes from New York Times (opens in a new tab) an article that has long talked about how parents buy an Apple Watch SE for their kids instead of a smartphone. But buried among it, incidentally, it is rumored that an even cheaper smartwatch will be launched by the company at an upcoming event.
This claim was made by “two persons involved in the project who were not authorized to speak publicly”.
That’s a claim that may be true, but the idea that it’s a wearable designed specifically for children, some sites say, seems unlikely. In fact, it’s probably just the Apple Watch SE 2.
First, it seems unlikely that Apple managed to completely hide the Apple Watch model until the day before launch; which in itself means that this newest suggestion seems flimsy at best.
Also, while the article focuses on kids using Apple Watches, the sources don’t really say that this one is specifically for kids – just that it’s cheap. Moreover, Apple does not choose the version of its products for children.
We are not alone in believing that the Apple Watch for children is also unlikely, as Mark Gurman, a recognized journalist and journalist with extensive experience in the field of information about Apple, also said. tweet (opens in a new tab) that he does not “believe there is a new, very cheap baby watch coming, as some have said.”
Instead, Gurman says the Apple Watch SE 2 might just be launched at a lower price than the original Apple Watch SE, which sounds much more believable.
Analysis: The Apple Watch for kids is here
Another thing to note is that Apple doesn’t have to make an Apple Watch aimed at children – because, as the New York Times article essentially describes, the Apple Watch SE already does. It is inexpensive, and many parents buy it for their children.
You can already get colored stripes for it, and we can’t imagine Apple choosing too childish a design.
So if this report is accurate at all, our guess is the same as Gurman’s – that they are talking about the Apple Watch SE 2, but that it will be increasingly attractive as a children’s gadget as it will cost less than $ 279 / £ 269 / AU $ 429 starting price of the original Apple Watch SE.
As the leaks suggest the SE 2 won’t be a big upgrade, the lower launch price is certainly plausible.
