We keep hearing a lot of leaks and rumors surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S23 phone series, with the latest unconfirmed whispers pointing to improvements in both the photo and video recording capabilities of the phones.
According to an experienced teaser of leaks Ice Universe (opens in a new tab)when it comes to video recording, the new Galaxy S23 phones will be able to record 8K footage at 30 frames per second. That’s more than 24fps on the three Galaxy S22 series phones.
It may not seem like the most significant leap, but it’s likely to be welcome nonetheless as more and more filmmakers switch to 8K resolution for their movies. This video will look smoother on the 2023 flagships.
More improvements
That’s not all, because Ice Universe says it too (opens in a new tab) photos taken with the Galaxy S23 Ultra in daylight conditions are supposed to be “clearer”, and also offer “better detail and greater saturation” of shots taken with the phone.
While there’s not much detail there, it sounds in line with what we’ve heard about the Galaxy S23 range – that photos and video captured from the Ultra model in particular will be noticeably better.
Based on what we’ve heard before, it looks like Ice Universe has pre-ordered the Galaxy S23 phone, or maybe just saw the results of its rear cameras. The new phones are expected to be unveiled in February 2023.
Analysis: pressing on the quality of the camera
The quality of smartphone cameras has now improved to such an extent that it is difficult for manufacturers to make huge leaps forward with technology from year to year. It looks like updates to the Galaxy S23 will be minor in the photo and video capture department.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 and Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus featured 50MP + 12MP + 10MP triple-lens rear cameras with 3x optical zoom, while the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra was at the top of the range with a 108MP + 12MP quad-lens rear camera MP + 10 MP + 10 MP which boasted a 10x optical zoom.
The Ultra is rumored to get a 200MP rear camera next year, and it’s no surprise that this will lead to significant improvements in low-light photography and telephoto options. However, some of the other cameras in the rear module apparently remain the same.
We’ve heard less about potential camera upgrades for the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus. Rumors circulating suggested that there would not be much updating of the hardware components, although the software algorithms could always be improved.
